I honestly never was real crazy about this rule. However if it is a rule, it should be followed. According to the rule book the scoring team has the responsibility of enforcing this rule.
WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
There is simply to much going on race day for us to catch and address everything. We do the best we can.
Whenever riders come through the checkpoint, the scoring lady's position themselves to see the front number plate, they write it down, make sure it gets into the computer and flashes on the scoreboard. They are focused on that and not really looking at side number plates. I'm focused on making sure everything goes smooth and gets done consistently, accurately and fairly.
MOST riders conform to the rule, so we don't always catch those that don't. "NOT Scored" seems pretty harsh, what if a guy wrecks, his bike rubs up against a tree and scraps the temporary sticker off the side number plate? What if it is so muddy you can't see the side number plate? There are many factors to take into consideration.
I would ask you all to HELP OUT! If you see someone do something that the rulebook says they should not do, then tell them. If they ignore you, then tell the promoter, me or another officer. If they refuse to adhere let us know and we will do our best to address and resolve it.
