How about something like this...

Regarding class color number plates, riders have three choices...
1. run the temporary number plates(front and both sides), you can get them at sign up, the first set is free, after that it will cost you $5 per set.
2. run the oval number plate stickers on the front and side number plates of their bike.
3. run the correct color "custom" number plates on the front and side plates of the bike.

If a rider does not do this AND is protested by another rider or spectator, the rider that did not conform to the class color number plates will be docked 1 lap.

Left a post 5 hrs ago (topic: changing classes) asking "who do I contact about getting either the oval or the custum stickers if I change classes". Have not received a reply. Please get back to me asap. If I am going to make the change, I would like to have my numbers in by next race.

Farrell that sounds better. Maybe it will encourage people to conform but still not be as harsh as to not get scored at all. Those thinking they can just continue to use the temps will figure out after enough $5 temps they could have bought graphics and if not oh well they can continue to pay the series money. And if enough people get the word that they can protest these nonconforming riders and they get enough laps docked then that in itself should help them see the light!

Bruce,
I agree with you. Is there a way to incorporate the color scheme with the number system of old? For example, I race Aopen...(black background with white numbers) or (numbers starting with 1XX)If we say that the Aopen has to have black background with white numbers and has to be any number starting with 1xx, there would have to be 99 riders or more for it to nullify effectiveness. I think both are great ways to track who you are watching race, or racing against. I think it is more important to know who you are racing against as it is very disappointing to be 4 laps in, sucking air and cramping up while getting past by a trail rider on his crf230! Motivating at best!

FROM THE AHSCS RULE BOOK.

Class Colors and Numbers: To be scored during the race, atv class numbers must be displayed
on the front and rear, sides are optional. Motorcycle class numbers must be displayed on the front
and side number plates. Numbers on number plates should be a minimum of 2” tall and MUST
conform to the class color scheme. Temporary, correct color front number plates will be available
at sign ups.

I honestly never was real crazy about this rule. However if it is a rule, it should be followed. According to the rule book the scoring team has the responsibility of enforcing this rule.

5 hours is a little unrealistic expectation to get a response from a volunteer. 5 days maybe

Just my 2 cents worth.
I like the color plates to match the class. It would be nice that if in time everyone had side plates to match. I was one who didnt this race only because this was first race back in a year and wanted to put the numbers on new side plates. I have been a member of the AHSCS family for 10yrs now and I feel this is the best system we have had and would like to thank our officers for a job well done. Officers work hard and in my book are the backbone of the AHSCS.

There is simply to much going on race day for us to catch and address everything. We do the best we can.

Whenever riders come through the checkpoint, the scoring lady's position themselves to see the front number plate, they write it down, make sure it gets into the computer and flashes on the scoreboard. They are focused on that and not really looking at side number plates. I'm focused on making sure everything goes smooth and gets done consistently, accurately and fairly.

MOST riders conform to the rule, so we don't always catch those that don't. "NOT Scored" seems pretty harsh, what if a guy wrecks, his bike rubs up against a tree and scraps the temporary sticker off the side number plate? What if it is so muddy you can't see the side number plate? There are many factors to take into consideration.

I would ask you all to HELP OUT! If you see someone do something that the rulebook says they should not do, then tell them. If they ignore you, then tell the promoter, me or another officer. If they refuse to adhere let us know and we will do our best to address and resolve it.

AHSCS 2011 Bike Scoring Chairman applications are now being accepted!

lol, a little early to give up Farrell. I think a starting line walk around would be a good start. a couple officials could make a quick one over and if its a blatant violation tell em about it. ya not scoring at all is harsh, i mean they paid there entry fee's like the rest of us. As long as attitude isn't an issue, it can easily be resolved. maybe make note and a.) doc them a lap as already discussed, or b.) just note to check them out at the next race and see if they've conformed. If not stricter penalty's infracted. There's gonna have to be a decision made and then we can all work together for the common goal.

If they can put 1 temp on the front. They can put 2 more on the sides. I noticed the temps have differnt colored back grounds. Are the numbers wrote in with differnt colors as well? There will be a lot of class changes in the near future so this will also be a issue. There has to be a way to identify your class so to give time to replace your plates in the event of a class change.

Doug, this will all come out in the wash. riders who get moved up will know before the day of the race (some really soon).

Series members should only use the temp plate at the 1st event they sign up at, after that either the Bg ovals, or whatever brand backgrounds, as long as they meet the specified class color.

The temp plates, like C Vet are blue backgrounds with a yellow blank space where numbers are written in with a sharpie.

I agree with Farrell on everything that is going on race day and all the what if's. Too bad we didn't consider those issues before the rule was made and put in the rule book.

I know it is the rider's responsibility but, I wonder if some of the issue is simply that all riders have not read the new rules and don't realize the possible consequences. The race on 03/28 conflicts with our schedule but we do plan on being at
the race on 04/25. I will be glad to provide a banner that can be placed at sign up to help remind everyone. If the scoring chairman thinks that will help just let me know. If it is not a good idea I am ok with that also.

Trying to clear up any confusion...

IF we adopt option #1 for the 2010 season, here is what it would mean...
A. EVERY rider will be required to run number plates with the correct class color scheme(background color and number color).
B. 2009 series members can run their same number in 2010 if they want to.
C. On the starting line before the race, someone will check the number plates on the bikes, if they don't conform, then the rider will be required to go back to sign up and get temporary "correct" color class number plates. Should be around $4...

We actually did consider those issues, we just thought that we would have time to do the check before the race. Problem is... There have been more pressing issues before the first two races.

More to come...

Keith when we figure out what wording should be on the banner, it would be great if you could do that for us. Thanks!

10-4 Farrell. I can do paper(disposable) banners cheap. Heck I can change them up or provide a new one for each race without much of a problem. Just wish I lived closer so I could help more.

Just a thought. (and I haven't made it to a race yet, but weekend work is about over). Since this is a new system and it is still working 'bugs' out, I would be hesitant to implement to many penalties right away. It appears that the classes are going to have to sort out a little before 'permanent' plates are in order. If you are at the bottom or middle of your class AP then get permanent, but for those that are teetering or may be moved the temps may be the best solution for a couple of more races. Next year will be different as you will have a year of data to validate who is in what class. I think from my lurking and listening that this is a good system and holds a lot of promise, from my days in moto-x the biggest complaint ever was the 'infinite beginner (or novice)' this looks like a viable solution to keeping equal speed riders in the same class. It looks like it's very hard to 'cheat' or 'sandbag' on also. Charge for temporary plates and #'s but don't jump to rulings and penalties until it sorts out a little bit. I'm looking forward to getting in the woods and meeting you all soon, sounds like a great group of people to ride with. Just my .02 worth.
